A Unique Romantic Ring: Cushion Cut Engagement Ring

Most of you have not heard of the cushion cut engagement ring. Even though more couples are seriously considering this ring cut, it is still relatively rare. The ring has an interesting and romantic history. We are talking the 1870’s into the early 1900’s when this ring had it’s heyday.

How did this ring cut come about? It was due to having only candlelight and jewelers needing to find a way to make a diamond stand out even in low light. That’s how this cut came about. Thus, it’s also called the candle light diamond.

We’ve got lots of lights these days, but there will be times when you are out at a restaurant or other place where the lights aren’t so bright. With this ring, you may get some ring glitter going even with little light! It is truly a unique engagement ring with a touch of romance.

If you like the idea of having an antique style engagement ring, then this ring could be a good choice. Not that you likely to find one from the late 1800’s, but your ring choice would mean you have an antique style ring.

What about the cut itself –how does it look? Think pillow. Or a square or rectangular cushion.

Cushion cut engagement settings are 4 or 8 prong settings. Anything else really wouldn’t work with the cut as it would obscure the diamond. You certainly don’t want to do that with this beautiful cut.

Now, you are probably wondering about cushion cut engagement ring prices. It’s hard to actually suggest prices or even price ranges. That’s true of most rings, since there are so many variables that can affect the final cost.

But as you know, with rarity comes greater costs with most things. That’s true with rings as well, and the cushion cut is simply not that common yet. Maybe it will be someday but not right now. The good news is that means you could have a truly unique wedding ring like few others have – and maybe no one that you know. The bad news is that you will pay more all other things being equal.

Some brides like the cushion cut engagement rings with halo too. That means more money. The halo which is also used with round cut solitaire diamonds, are smaller stones in the ring setting surrounding the center stone.

Ready to look at some of these rings? Problem is you may have trouble finding any of these in the stores in your town. You could call around some and see – maybe you will be lucky. Other than that, you can look at pictures of cushion cut rings online and in jeweler’s ring books.

If this ring sounds like it’s just what you would like to have, don’t get discouraged by any limitations. Of course, if you have budget limitations, you may have to consider getting the simplest cushion cut ring that you can. Otherwise, go all out and get exactly what you want. Any nice engagement ring is going to be expensive.

You probably know already there is no such thing as a cheap ring. And you don’t really want one do you? An engagement ring is for life, so invest the time, energy and yes even money to get the ring you will be proud of.
